Setting up my Logitech Z-5500 Speakers to my Ps3/TV.?

I need some help. Im only getting sound out of either my Ps3 or my TV. Ie I get digital sound from the Ps3 when it is plugged in using the optical cable, but no tv sound when I switch back through the Z-5500 and vice versa. I have a new Samsung 40 inch Series 6 LCD, connected to my Ps3 via a HDMI cable and that all works fine.
Can someone tell me exactly how I can get sound through my speakers from both the TV and Ps3. DO I only need 1 optical cable like I have been told. What shoudl I plug it into, and what should my TV/ Ps3 settings be?

You only have one option. The sound comes from Logitech or TV, you can’t get both at the same time.
