laptop lcd screen replacement cost
I stepped on my Dell laptop and now the screen is cracked?

i got kinda drunk over xmas and stepped on my rather expensive laptop, now the screen is cracked…anywayz there is no point of buying a replacement, b/c i know it cost more then it is worth….my questions are…is it possible to hook it up to a monitor or lcd tv and use it that way? Or can I take out the hard drive and motherboard and place it in my old gateway laptop or use the rams for another dell laptop….10 pts for the best answer…..

You can connect it to a LCD TV using a HDMI Cable (If it’s a HDTV) or using a VGA cable.

A VGA cable is a 5x5x5 (15) pin plug that plugs into the side of your laptop and into the “PC” or “VGA” port in your TV

A HDMI cable is a small cable which connects two High Definition displays/units together which connects into the side of your laptop (If you have a HDMI port) If you don’t, you’ll have to go down the VGA route.

Most of the time, you’ll find VGA leads more expensive but I’m unsure why as HDMI transfers sound as well.

As you said, you could probably move everything into another laptop housing, but you may find it hard to fit everything you have in your Dell laptop as the connections may be different, and the disc drive in the Dell may be better than the one in your old Laptop, but if you choose to move that as well, it may be slightly bigger/smaller and not fit.

There’s all sorts of problems in changing everything in a laptop. If it was a desktop PC, than it would be really easy to transfer everything.

If I were you, I’d try and find a second hand screen for your Dell laptop, it’s probably easier than connecting it to an external display every time you want to use it.
