Buying Lcd Hdtv
Is it safe to buy a LCD HDTV now?
I plan on buying a 40″ Sony BRAVIA XBR LCD HDTV and getting a Directv HD package in Feb. 07. My worry is are they going to improve more right after I get it. Do you think they will be coming out with a higher resolution than 1080p?
No there is no reason to go higher than 1080p as there is no content that is currently available that is higher than 1920 x 1080(1080p).
In fact, all broadcast content is either 720p or 1080i. No stations have even begun to broadcast in 1080p and it will likely be many many years before even any start to.
Prices on LCD’s will still be dropping as the technology becomes easier to produce. If you do not mind seeing the set you bought for $500 or so cheaper in a year then I would say it is fine to buy the LCD now.
Also I should note, for a 40″ set you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. On paper, it looks obvious, but at normal viewing distances you will not notice much if any difference.
